For years now, the topic of violence against women that is happening through ICT has not been “attractive” enough for our local media. Even with the rise of the number of our mapped cases and educational trainings held, they simply did not seem to care enough to publish our case studies, much less, to do an interview on the topic. Up until this July.

This year has seen major debates and developments in the internet sphere. The Snowden revelations have brought to the attention of the public problematic issues regarding surveillance and privacy online. In addition, the presence of the IGF this year in Turkey also directed the attention of internet stakeholders to the internet censorship practice in this country and in other nations.

On 1 September 2014, APC launched the “Feminist Principles of the Internet” at the Sexual Rights Pre-Event of the 2014 Internet Governance Forum in Istanbul, Turkey.

We invite you to join our Global Meeting on Gender, Sexuality, & the Internet to explore and develop our collective understanding of what a feminist internet looks like. The meeting will be held in Malaysia between April 12 and 17 and brings together scholars, activists, and policy specialists from local, regional, and international organizations and networks.

From April 12th - 17th, APC's Women's Rights and Communications Information Policy programmes will bring together activists working in the sexual rights movement and internet rights movement to a global dialogue on Gender, Sexuality and the Internet in Port Dickson, Malaysia.
